They gross me out. My room is more like an added on enclosure, and it's not always sealed well. Bugs get in. Some stupid... some disgusting. I don't mind the dirt dobbers so much, because they're clumsy stupid fuckers that go SPLAT when I hit them with my shoes. I can't stand waterbugs, because I'll scream like a little bitch if I see those. But what the hell kind of bug did I just encounter, and why does it concern me so much?

So there was this beetle looking thing that was about an inch lon... Continue »

Is it just me, or was this man one of the greatest actors to ever live? Sure, he usually played a drunk, but every movie he was ever in was made significantly better by his presence.

How 'bout those Brownrigg movies? Hopefully, I'm not the only fan out there who sees him as more than just the guy who made 1973's Don't Look In The Basement. Sure. That one was, by far, the best thing S.F. Brownrigg ever did, but he would soon prove to have more to offer than just the one hit. Of course Brownrigg would also prove, later on, that he can make really boring movies, as well. However, let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Today, we're... Continue »

Oftentimes I'll read reviews for a movie that I've seen, and see that most of them complain about how terrible the acting is. And I have to admit, at least 95% of the time, I have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe it's because I mostly watch B movies, but I very rarely notice bad acting. For me to be distracted by bad acting, it has to really really bad. Like grade school play level bad. Like "Flesh Eating Mothers" bad. Does bad acting make much of a difference to you?

Take a look at this shit. Our man James Gunn went from Troma to Disney, and they fired him. He'll no longer direct their sci-fi/space Marvel movie sequel, because of some rape joke he made 10 years ago.

Google James Gunn and see:
https://lmgtfy.com/?q=james+gunn

Pretty harsh, for someone who was able to give a little of his own personality to this Marvel continuity where the director truly doesn't matter. You can swap out the directors of those movies, and they'd still be exactly the same... Continue »

Like sfpx pointed out, "Unsane" is also an alternate title of "Tenebre", but we'll forgive 'em. It is a good name for a movie, and Tenebre obviously didn't want the name enough, since it opted to be called just that. "Tenebre". Tenebrae? Well, whatever. This has nothing to do with that movie, but that's still a good movie.

Anyways...

Unsane had a damn short theatrical run, and the trailer was pretty decent, so I wanted to see it while I could. I'm not sure if it's a common thing, but this... Continue »

July 22nd through July 28th

I figure I'll keep this separate from the Camp Slasher thread, so mark your spots for the shark challenge.

+1 point per movie featuring a shark
+1 point per FTV
+1 point per victim (killed OR bitten BY a shark)

Here's a List of Shark Titles:

Today was the last day "A Quiet Place" is playing at my theater, so I gave it a go. I tried once before, to no avail, as I had to leave because the audience wouldn't shut the fuck up, but no worries. Not like I'm paying for this shit anyway...

So I went to see what the big deal was, and what do you know... overhyped! Now, it ain't a bad movie. For Hollywood/PG-13 standards, it's pretty decent, but I still don't get why it lasted so long in theaters. Bitch lasted a month and a half, which is g... Continue »

Just saw this for the first time, oddly enough. Not too shabby. It's definitely more "by the numbers" than the first, riding that post-Freddy '80s horror bandwagon turning the killer equal parts unstoppable and totally quippable. The Stepfather is truly a real creep and weirdo. These movies probably wouldn't be nearly as entertaining without Terry O'Quinn's acting chops, though. And it's always nice to see the lovely Caroline Williams. Didn't she get the memo that the nosy friend always... Continue »

As mentioned by @Box earlier, Creepshow is set to return as a TV series. I hope it's good, because the idea of a Creepshow TV series interests me more than the no longer happening Tales from the Crypt reboot. But does anyone remember Creepshow RAW?

The Creepshow franchise went through some bad times during the 2000s. In 2006, there was the poorly received Creepshow 3, which featured zero involvement from George Romero or Stephen King. Around the same time, there was the rumor of a remake, but... Continue »

Damn, that scene chills me to the bone. I'll try to elaborate

1. It starts off with that terribly depressing song, "The Midnight Special." I like plenty of CCR songs, but this definitely isn't one of them. It's depressing in a way that I find the MASH theme song depressing, except this one gives me the willies too.

2. Two recognizable faces in Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks. Something about seeing two very well-known actors not normally recognized for horror lulls me into a false sense of s... Continue »

The first episode just aired of this new horror comedy anthology series on Tru TV. Goldthwait writes and directs. I really liked the first episode. Seth Green played a voice actor, whose cartoon bear character came to life and threatened him and his family. It's Roger Rabbit meets Cape Fear. It's definitely something I'm going to keep watching.

Celebrate your favorite summer camp slashers with a 2-week binge!

Sunday, July 8th ...to... Saturday, July 21st

Then, we'll jump right into Shark Week. I might get lazy and use this same thread for that one too, so people wont need to make new spots. Hopefully, it shouldn't be too confusing.

Camp Slasher Rules:

+1 pt per camp slasher watched
+1 pt per FTV
+1 pt per victim (killed by the killer, ie not accidentally)
+1 pt for each F13 movie watched on F13

What are the most beautiful horror movies you have seen? I, mean, in terms of horror films that are beautifully shot in your opinion.

For me, it would be:

Long Weekend (1978)
The Territory (1981)
Who Can Kill a Child? (1976)
The Dead (2010)
Duel (1971 TV Movie)
The Dead 2: India (2013)
The Reflecting Skin (1990)
The Grapes of Death (1978)
Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972)
And Soon the Darkness (1970)
Where Have All the People Gone (1974 TV Movie)
Race with the Devil (1975)

There are many of these bad shark movies out there these days. But this is one of the earlier ones and one that I remember watching a while ago.

Pretty funny actually, especially John Barrowman's infamous take you home and eat your pussy line. In addition to those composite shots of the shark eating people, most hilarious of which is the guy on the jetski driving straight into the shark's mouth.

I watched the first one, so why not? Again, this is DTV slasher shit from a relatively bad era for slasher flicks, so you have to go in with a few reservations. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it for what it is, though. Right?

As the subtitle suggests, the movie is set when the counselors are closing the camp up for the end of summer. They're still up to their usual antics, and decide to play a game of Bloody Murder. This is a vague sequel to the previous film's events, which left off on a kind... Continue »

[color=#ff0]Yeah, that was a while ago, but for anyone who cares, here's how it went down. I, personally, didn't do nearly as good at that as I had wanted due to distractions from some medical issues, but I watched some Fat Albert for the first time in years. That show was pretty awesome. I love the one where they all beat the shit out of the retard cuz Rudy's sister claimed he raped her. She was just trying to get attention, but Fat Albert set the little ho straight. I love how he always doe... Continue »

The slasher genre was in a decline in that dreadful era known as the 90s. Everyone was burned out on horror, so the only thing left to do was rip off the stuff that worked so well nearly 20 years earlier, and that's what we have here. A total Friday the 13th rip-off in many ways, Bloody Murder features a hockey-masked killer in coveralls who stalks a camp as the counselors set it up for the summer.

Hell, there's even a character named Jason whose name is mentioned all throughout the movie. In... Continue »

We need something fun for this month, so I want to solidify these few challenges:

Camp Slashers - July 8th through July 14th (or July 21st?)

Obviously, we want to do this one while we have a Friday the 13th in the week, because it makes perfect sense. It doesn't particularly need to be set during the summer, and that should open up our options. How about 1 pt for any camp slasher, +1 pt for FTVs, and +1 point for each F13 movie watched ON Friday the 13th. Suggestions welcome.

The Holy Grail of 80's SOV directors is certainly a short one. Short but definitive, just the same. You got your Polonia twins, who stuck around far longer than anyone would have probably thought. You have Mr. Chester N. Turner, who, unless you've been living under a rock for 34 years, is known for giving us all the gift that is Black Devil Doll From Hell. And then, last but far from least, there's good 'ol Donald Farmer. Donald Farmer is responsible... Continue »

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead make for a great filmmaking duo, having directed "Resolution" (2012) and "Spring" (2014). There's a lot of buildup in these movies, but it's all pretty quality stuff that's quite engaging.

In "The Endless", the two not only direct, but they star in the film as the two main characters "Justin" and "Aaron". How about that?

Basically, they've escaped some weird "cult" about a decade earlier, but the strange signs compel them to return to this endless pit of we... Continue »

They are notorious, they are disturbing, they are brutal, but are they truly deserving of the label of a video nasty? If you are a movie buff, especially when it comes to the horror and exploitation genres you have definitely heard of the Video Nasties List that came about in the early 1980's.Those movies which were deemed obscene even pornographic. Some may have been deserving. Some of them, I have no idea how they... Continue »

If Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead had a baby, and that baby was raised by a steaming hunk of cheese... you'd have The Dead Next Door (1989). It has a lot of similar themes to both movies, including grey-faced zombies, mad scientists who experiment on the dead, and tons of little things.

Hell, they even show a video of "Dawn of the Dead", and "The Evil Dead" is seen on the television at one point. You know you don't have an original horror film when you're throwing a... Continue »
