I would guess that the majority of people here are fans of the Troma movies... And I would like to think that I am open-minded when it comes to horror..

I have seen around six of these movies to date recently - having not seen a single one in my life.. and I have to admit, and I don't want to offend anyone here - but they really are not very good, in my opinion.. they can be childishly silly and immature..

I know they completely conflict with my tastes, but is there anyone here who is not... Continue »

Off the top of my head Martin 1978 would be. I can't think of any more, surely there must me some more. What other horror movie loners are there?

41 years after the original "I Spit on Your Grave", Camille Keaton returns as Jennifer Hills to pass the torch over to her character's daughter Christy, so she too can be raped and get revenge, by the descendants of the original film's antagonists.

In 2010, we were given a brutal, gritty remake of the original that featured some of the gnarliest kills I've seen in any movie. It was a fucking great remake. One of the best. It went on to spawn two decent sequels, and then it was announced that... Continue »

John Wick Chapter 3 was cool as hell. It picks up right after the second film's daunting ending, where it's also revealed that Part 2 takes place within a week of part 1. So in that week, John Wick has killed sooooo many people, and he barely has any time to catch a breath because everyone is still out to get him.

Don't these fuckers ever learn? You can't kill the bogeyman!

This movie had the best fight scenes in the entire series. The violence is cranked up even higher, and my God,... Continue »

I know a lot of y'all aren't too crazy about disney, but personally, I think they did an amazing job with the live action Aladdin. I know it isn't the same without Robin Williams as the iconic genie, but Will Smith did an incredible job. He didn't try to be Robin Williams. He embodied the genie in a way that made the movie an incredible experience, while still paying respect to the original.

I watched Aladdin so much as a kid, but it has been years since I have seen it, but the minute the mu... Continue »

For the next two weeks of this literary challenge spin-off, it's a Stephen King ordeal, since that dude has infinite material.

From Sunday, May 12th to Saturday, May 25th:

+1 point per Stephen King movie OR tv show episode/mini-series episode, including sequels/episodes to his movies that he didn't necessarily have anything to do with. "It" (1990) is a mini-series, but it's basically 2 movies/episodes, and that would count as 2 points.

+1 if he directed it (Maximum Overdrive only)
+1 i... Continue »

As much as I want to hate on modern cinematic drivel, I still make an exception for Marvel movies. Marvel was part of my youth, so I feel obligated to my younger self to stick with it, and sometimes... it stinks. Sometimes... it's incredible.

I wont ramble on that movie though... It was a crazy good satisfying conclusion to their 11 year effort, and I have no idea where they'll go from here. They probably don't even know. If Dark Phoenix is the conclusion to the X-Men verse, then Disney can m... Continue »

I saw this, for the seventeen bajillionth time, last night at a midnight showing. I guess there really is something special about seeing it on a big screen, because I had an idea that I don't know if I've ever had before, despite having seen the movie, as I said, seventeen bajillion times already.

There are several ideas in the movie that Carpenter probably borrowed from The Quatermass Experiment. There must be a lot of websites, Youtube videos, etc where people talk about this connection.... Continue »

What do you think of this? I'd been waiting my whole life for the real Terminator 3, and it's finally coming. The trailer is a big tease though, and it doesn't show enough of what I'm looking for.

Do people ever say OT here?!? As I was typing it, I thought "whoa, major IMDB flashback, here."

Anyway, in the last few minutes I saw one guy riding a onewheel, and someone else on a Lime electric scooter. There are so many funky things like those, these days. There are hovershoes, hoverboards, Segway minipros... I had to fool around on Google to even find the names of these things. Where the hell did all these gadgets come from? Does anybody have any personal favorite modes of personal... Continue »

Damn good movie. Based on a true story of a 90 year old flower guy who gets in deep with the cartel after running drugs for them. He uses his money to help out his family and friends, but things escalate, as they always do.

Clint Eastwood is so old, but he's still got it. He even manages to score with a few young ladies. "I'm a high-end gigolo", he says.

The fact that he's still acting and directing is amazing. You'd think he'd have made his best movies years ago. I thought Gran Tor... Continue »

Everybody likes that wookie, right? Even if you're not a big fan of Star Wars, you'll still appreciate a giant hairy beast that hangs out with Harrison Ford, and Chewbacca was a great sidekick. One of the best.

Peter was a tall fucker, though. It lead to health problems with his back and knees, so he couldn't be as adventurous as his days in the sci-fi 70s and 80s, but he was always good to his fans. He was supposed to do a big convention soon, and that's got to be awful for everyone.

Twilight was all the rage back in the late 2000s... among pre-pubescent girls. Quite frankly, it's a stupid movie. Everyone knows they sparkle, but why? They look really stupid when they run super fast. Why are vampires playing baseball? The world may never know.

Taintlight is a far superior knockoff. It's made by Chris Seaver, so you know it's at least entertaining. Stella and Edgar are queefloads better than Bella and Edward. Plus, the movie is on youtube:

I spend a lot of time half watching shows and movies with out hardly looking at the screen. So, I'm just intersted in what people would considered the 1 movie they would take with them to a desert island, if they were blinded before having to make the choice.

Watched this one again today for some quasi-King points. I've always liked the movie, and I love that it has the same vibe/setting/director as the first. What I noticed this time is how often it references the original.

First off, it's set in the same city. There's a few times throughout where they mention the Creed family, and what happened to them. There's also a doctor that was familiar with the strange case of Church the cat, and that guy was a kook who could have probably had his own spi... Continue »

I was just thinking about the first Omen movie, from 1976. It is excellent in soooo many different ways, of course: music, cast, abrupt beheadings (always an important consideration), and, perhaps mportantly... settings.

I think one big reason The Omen gets under all our skin is because it is largely set in places that had a lot of significance in Western culture. Rome, London, and... well, Israel, if not necessarily Jerusalem... I can't remember if there's a brief shot of Jerusalem somewhe... Continue »

Or Pandorum (2009)? Anything set on a large spaceship meant to transport colonists to another star system, over an extremely long period of time, but something goes wrong.

Now that I'm typing this, I am experiencing deja vu. Have I posted this question before, and just forgot?!? Sorry.

Whatever... anyway, there is an old story by Robert Heinlein that I liked a lot when I first discovered it, when I was in around fifth grade. Wait, I read the segment of this called Universe, apparently... Continue »

Anyone happen to catch this? It's On Demand this month, and I watched it.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1713476/

It's sort of a 70's eco-thriller, done in a found footage style. It's about an entire town getting really, really sick, and many people dying, because of a combination of environmental problems. The main thing that killed people seemed to be a mutated parasite that gew much larger than normal, and did yucky things to people. Anyway, I can't quite put my finger on it, but there'... You guys, I'm gonna come back and patch this into an earlier thread that I'm pretty sure I posted in the last few months. I just can't find it right this second.

I just wanted to mention, apparently Barbara Perry died this month. I primarily know her because she had a very minor part in the first Trancers movie. She was Mrs. Claus here:

Anybody watch Netflix's new biopic "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile"? It's based on a book, for those participating in this month's challenge, and it's a pretty interesting look into the mind of Ted Bundy, one of America's most infamous serial killers.

I'm not very knowledgable about the man except for his reputation, but this movie covers that prominent era of his life, yet it does so in a rather unconventional way. Ted Bundy is a serial killer, but this movie chooses not to focus... Continue »

This was back in 1990, when the tv/miniseries era of Stephen King's works started taking off. I'd presume that's because his books were so long. I know his story for "IT" is some 1000 pages, so that couldn't all fit into just one movie. Not back then, and not today, either, apparently. Certain popular franchises can secure lengthy runtimes, but the 90s preferred the form of the miniseries.

IT: Chapter Two will be out soon. People are going to get their "IT" on, but which "IT" is worth... Continue »

This was my 8th consecutive year attending DFW's annual horror con. Each year, I try to meet a few more horror icons who have blown my mind in classic horror flicks that are now considered staple horror franchises. I've met a lot of my heroes. People I've only seen on screen for years and years of my life. People I'd never dreamed I would actually shake hands with. That's what these conventions are for. They blur the line between reality and fiction in the same kind of way that Halloween blurs t... Continue »
