Neill Blomkamp blames MGM for their inability to cooperate with his schedule. I had high hopes for a gritty return to form for this humiliated franchise, but studios are all about scrapping Blomkamp movies for some bogus reason.

What's also lame is that when I looked up this movie to get the full story, I saw that Bing has the original film classified as a fantasy/mystery. What's the world coming to?

We all love a wide variety of horror culture. From movies made during the dawn of film and up to the present, it obviously tickles your fancy enough to make you watch this stuff regularly, sometimes even craving it. I don't have enough horror movies in my diet, and that's what keeping me off my rocker.

People do all sorts of things to keep their mind off of the perils of reality, but horror is an escape that can consume your life if apt enough for it. It becomes a quest to seek out more, hoping... Continue »

Every time any movie or tv show or comic is ever released, so comes another slew of these stupid things. They make it an effort to cover almost any character in pop culture, but after a few hundred of them, you ought to realize there isn't anything worthwhile in collecting these stupid looking monstrosities.
This company is feeding off of the obsessions of collectors by giving them big-headed kiddie versions of even the lamest of characters. This company is brilliant, and that's why I hate them.

Today I was tired and a little distraught. I did something. A man came to my door. What happened next was a flurry and a blurr, but I was so hungry. It was hot and steemy. I felt so guilty as I bit in. The red stuff still warm as it gushed out, most making it into my mouth and some ending up in my beard. I was careful to wash away the evidence. The meat tasted so good. Maybe the best meat I had ever had. I was frustrated with how much I had to cut it, but maybe if it were cooked more I wouldn't... Continue »

After watching the first two seasons of Twin Peaks again, I revisited the (at the time) book ending to the series, which also serves as a prequel to the series. Therefore, you absolutely should NOT watch the movie before watching the series, because it spoils EVERYTHING.

When I first watched the movie, I hated it. I was desperate for resolution after the way season 2 ended. There were so many questions left unanswered, yet it was all leading somewhere so wonderful. However, David Lynch is a h... Continue »

Between work and the commute to work, I usually only have a couple hours a day to myself, so bear with me if I seem like I've been lazy on here. Trust me, I haven't. I've been working on a slew of updates for TE that I'm so very close to completing. The only problem is my limited window in each day to work on these things, which is quite frustrating considering how little work I actually have left.

After some of our regulars decided to bail on us for no good reason, I've been promising that I... Continue »

I'm watching Mimic right now. Somehow it isn't 100% successful, but it's hard to say why not. It does a lot of things right, I think.

Anyway, what are some other horror movies (or books!) that have a lot of scenes, or at least one really important scene, somewhere underground like a sewer or a subway? I'll start.

It
Relic
Reliquary (book)
CHUD
Mimic
Return of the Living Dead 2 (just a couple quick scenes in that huge sewer pipe, but they are important scenes for the movie)
Midni... Continue »

I will put this one out there as a mini-challenge for at some point during this month. Basically you will have 10-12 days to watch as many episodes from any HBO series (minimum 40 minutes per episode) as you can. You will get 1 point per episode. If you manage to complete a whole season (minimum 8 episodes), you will get a bonus 10 points. So for example managing to watch 2 seasons of Deadwood would get you 44 points. If anyone would prefer it to be based on the traditional running time though,... Continue »

This was a convenient concert that sprung up on der's radar, so I went to Dallas with him to catch the 50th anniversary of ZZ Top's career. FIFTY years, dude! The other two bands are only a few years from their 50th as well, but rock and roll has kept these fuckers young.

This was the same place we'd seen Alice Cooper and Deep Purple a couple years ago, but we were waaay in the back of the lawn this time. Not a problem though, because a lot of weed was passed around back there, but damn were... Continue »

I planned on getting some shit done tonight, but I drank a bunch instead. I've been drinking a lot lately as means of cutting back on weed, and I've been feeling fucking FANTASTIC about it. I've been sleeping well, and I've been having all sorts of random-ass dreams. Do you hear me! Do you know what I'm saying?! I've been having dreams lately! I haven't had dreams in so long, so this is a good sign! It means I'm inspired!

My dream last night was about John Wick. I think? Cool ass movie... Continue »

Congratulations to Ballz, the victor of the war (pun intended) movie challenge. It was a close run combat right until the end with literally just a short movie in it. I have to say it, there were some disappointing showings with at least a couple of desertions (pun intended again). Court-martials will undoubtably ensue.. OK, I will stop now. Here are the results:

Markus-san 3,929
Snowy 1,794

Bambi 423

We've had Once Upon a Time movies for all sorts of things. America, The West, China, Mexico, Venice, and now... Hollywood. Tarantino loves the era, and that's evident in a lot of his works, where he'll showcase grindhouse cinema, kung fu, Italian films, westerns, and whatever else inbetween.

This time, it's all about the behind the scenes for these movies, where we follow the washed up Rick Dalton and his stuntman Cliff Booth as they struggle to find work and relevance in an age of movie-maki... Continue »

I've slacked hard on this month's war challenge, but I deemed it necessary to watch one of my favorite Brian De Palma movies. This one is based on a grizzly true story of a group of grieving soldiers who kidnap a local Vietnamese girl and proceed to torture and rape her.

The cast is excellent. Sean Penn is the main perpetrator of this heinous act. A man with seemingly no conscience as he views any natives as VC scum who deserve whatever harm they may get. Don Harvey plays his asshole lackey w... Continue »

It's the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, so what better way to commemorate them than a challenge for the month of July. The challenge will commence at 00:01 GMT on the 1st July and finish at 06:00 GMT on the 1st August.

Points will be awarded for running time, so with most war movies clocking in at well over two hours, you should be able to rack up the points. You can also watch any TV series, including documentaries if you missed out this month (The World At War... Continue »

A few female coworkers have been watching movies at my place lately. I'm trying to educate them on good movies. Currently, the goal is to show them something disturbing, to mess them up.

I figured "Bug" 2006 would be a good place to start, but it didn't phase them so much. I'm thinking of whipping out the big guns, and showing them something like "Megan is Missing". I was creeped the fuck out by that movie, so that's my best idea for a disturbing movie.

What would you show to someone if... Continue »

I am watching Night of the Demons 1988 for the fifty kajillionth time, and I just want to say, I really want to track the actress down and chainsaw her head off because of the way she says "Oh!" very insultingly, at 23:15 here:

Has anybody seen the viddie where they put Jim Carrey into The Shining? It's incredible how far technology has come, and it's also incredibly scary. This stuff can and will compromise the integrity of surveillance footage. It's only a matter of time before a grand conspiracy occurs involving this stuff, but is it new? Haven't we all been faked out for decades?

Shortly after the Shining video, we went back to the 90s for a T2 redux with Stallone's face on Arnold's body. I read that this... Continue »

They announced their phase 4 plans, and it all has me rolling my eyes.

Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is being called the first MCU horror film. As if! PG-13 horror is not horror. Provided the director has done a few horror films, you know they're gonna puss out and make it into a regular fantasy extravaganza. Honestly, the first Doctor Strange movie was pretty damn cool, but call a spade a spade. Don't lie to us and tell us you're making a horror movie out of a ki... Continue »
