Here's another random-ass comparison thread pertaining to the overt similarities between 1987's sci-fi flick about the future of law enforcement and 1990's comic book-y superhero flick.

Besides the fact that both of the movies turned into comics and both movies have 3 official sequels in which our protagonist eventually gets recast, the plots are otherwise very similar.

Alex Murphy is shot to shit and comes back to exact revenge upon the gang who perpetrated the heinous act against him, whils... Continue »

Spoilers galore. Basically spoils the entire movie and any potential twist it may have had. WTF, Hollywood? For shame. emoticon

So I've been rewatching Twin Peaks, again, and I can't help but think of all the great movies that feature multiple actors from the series.

RoboCop (1987) features Miguel Ferrer, Ray Wise, and Dan O'Herlihy. In this take, Albert is kissing Andrew Packard's ass as Leland is assisting in the criminal apocalypse. I think this movie is top-notch 80s sci-fi, and gory as shit to boot. Twin Peaks wouldn't unleash it's brutality until the 1992 movie, but 2/3rds of these actors meet a nasty demise in... Loganโ€™s Run - People are recycled on the carousel at 30.
Midsommar - The elders commit senicide at 72.
Children of the Corn - They are sacrificed at 19.

Any others?

This movie is out on Blu-ray in a limited mediabook edition. Some websites are calling it an all-region disc but on the box it clearly says region B. Has anyone actually gotten it and know for sure?

This is one of my favorite horror movies.. and one hell of a tale..

I remember reading John Keel's book of the same name that was based on the events, in a couple of hours one evening a couple of years back. For thirteen months Point Pleasant was plagued by a dark terror that culminated in a major disaster. Unearthly noises and ghostly lights in the sky gave way to mutilated animals, winged monsters, strange people, weird flying machines and of course, the Mothman. It was a real page turner.

I think I have seen most of the low-budget 70's horror movies out there but I love the feel of these movies.

Here are some of my favorites:

Messiah of Evil (1973)

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974)

Burnt Offerings (1976)

To name a few..

Anyone have some good suggestions?

I wonder how close we are to seeing this become available? That will be pretty cool. I know there are flexible TV screens, but I don't know if they are THAT flexible, or if they could survive a washing machine. My guess would be NO, to both of those concerns. But, nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe they are available in Singapore, or Japan, or Germany, and we just haven't been exposed to them yet.

If you google shirts with wearable moving graphics or gifs, things start coming up. There... Continue »

Only a handful of films really and truly haunt me for a number of days afterwards. The Ninth Configuration is one such film that really effected me, I can't explain it fully, it is one thought-provoking film, that is for sure, but yet funny in places with endlessly quotable dialogue. The first half of the film has more of a comedic tone. The "Orbit after orbit" scene is one of another of my favourite scenes ever, the monologue is so poignan... Continue »

Not really my intention to re-join but Box enabled my account again and is wanting some explanation from me. Since my account was disabled I could not explain anything. I did get a message yesterday where Vincent tried to lure Troma back in so therefore I checked the shoutbox. Between that and now I actually rarely checked. If the mods can check the activity of my ip they will know that's true.

I will answer your questions as long as you don't start throwing insults. I won't answer any questio... Continue »

I bought The Ultimate Horror Movie Guide by James Marriott & Kim Newman a couple of weeks back.

It is the most informative book out there on the horror genre. It has all the most influential to the most obscure movies. It is basically one big encyclopedia - decade by decade critical analysis to all of the sub-genres out there. A well written, thoughtful and highly entertaining read, that really pushes this into the "... Continue »

Back when Jordan Peele tried to awe us with his new doppleganger flick, in the back of my mind, I kept thinking about how Twin Peaks had already covered a lot of the same ground. This was way back in the damn early 90s, too. Not only regarding the dopplegangers, but also that whole alternate dimension of sorts that they come from. But wait, there's more! SPOILERS AHEAD. I finally got the chance to watch this movie Saturday evening after work. I was thrilled to watch it! It brought back my childhood of when I would read it with friends and get spooked out by the stories! Even now I still own all of the books!

Anyways, I was super excited to see this book come to life! Unfortunately it was just plain meh. It started off really slow, and me personally I donโ€™t like slow movies. I was already bored within the first 30 mins, but it was a free movie so

What is your opinion on them?

The topic of jump scares is always intriguing. Some think they are hacky and some think they are entertaining. I feel like its kind of a staple of modern horror films, and at a point they almost stop being scary and start becoming predictable. With that being said, I really enjoy a lot of movies that are heavily reliant on jump scares, but the more I watch these new horror movies, the more it seems forced. Its almost as if they have some sort of jump scare quota... Continue »

This movie was uneven but had its moments. There was a lot of attempts at some dark humor. Sometimes it worked and other times it didnโ€™t. I couldnโ€™t decide who I really wanted to win in this one. The bride was somewhat likeable and the family was so stupid and inept but I like watching people sacrificed to Satan. The best laughs came at the end.

Overall, pretty much what you get in modern day horror. Paint by numbers with decent writing and some good gore. The only they that made me cringe... Continue »

So lately I have been thinking about books that were made into movies or tv shows. And there are a few that I wish were never made, or should have been a tv show, or a tv show that maybe should have been a movie. I hate the Eragon movie, they completely messed it up. It was such a good book, and they could have done so much better. Another series that I think would have been way better as a tv show is Vampire Academy. The books are dark, and the movie was made into a comedy, and they completely... Continue »

Or maybe the tires are spinning off of this franchise, because it's gotten pretty far out there. They have a trailer out for "Hobbs and Shaw" now and I just watched it. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, once enemies after the fact that Statham killed a shit-ton of federal agents in Part 7, but that's water under the bridge, right? Now, they're the reluctant partners who have to save the world from Idris Elba, but wait! There's more!

This one apparently features bio-enhanced villains, so yeah.... Continue »

After 20+ years of putting it off, I finally watched Future-Kill. This is one of those movies I saw at the video store all the time and kept passing on; its HG Giger cover art and the tagline about it reuniting the stars of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre making a strong enough impression to stay with me all these years. I honestly can't even recall the film being brought up even once on imdb weirdly enough.

The plotline is basically a rip off of The Warriors - a group of Frat boys go into a di... Continue »

The last couple months @box has been showing me the awesomeness of Twin Peaks. I have to admit, after watching the first episode, while I loved it immensely, I had to wonder what I got my self into. It was so crazy, but I found myself needing to know more of the mystery of Laura Palmerโ€™s death.

I can now say I am happy I stuck through the first two seasons and the movie! The first season happened so fast that I had so many questions. And naturally season two left me with many more question... Continue »

I'm starting some college classes this week where I can "learn" more about coding. It sucks that I have to go through these motions, but I'm trying to play the game, so to speak, and just by getting oriented, I'm already rolling my eyes.

One of the intial requirements just for enrollment is to watch videos and answer questions about "Not Anymore", which is basically telling me it's not okay to be a rapist. I think it's absolutely preposterous that this stuff needs to be explicitly stated to t... Continue »

Iโ€™m hoping this second time around Iโ€™ll like it a bit better than I did the first time.

Matthew McConaughey did a super job in this movie๐Ÿคฃ
