I was just thinking about this recently. Sometimes there is a year in which several very similar movies (or at least fairly similar movies) come out. There could be more than one reason why this happens, of course. Maybe a screenwriter is describing his idea for a movie to his girlfriend at a Hollywood restaurant, and is overheard by someone working for a rival studio. Or, maybe there was a big story in the news the year before, which started a sort of craze to make movies related to whateve... Continue »

One of the first movies to ever scare the shit out of me as a kid was The Amityville Horror 1979. It's tame enough to play on TV, but still suggestive enough to get under your skin a bit. It's got a great cast, a great score, and a great late 70s vibe.

Everything about it works for me, and in my mind, I knew the sequels would never compare, so avoided them. Maybe this movie was a bit sacred to me because of nostalgia, but as a horror fan, I'm ashamed of myself for waiting this long. Whether t... Continue »

Znep wasn't kidding. This movie has a lot of boobs and it's 10 times better than the first... on account of the boobs. Jim Wynorski seemed to be pretty fond of them, and what a gratuitous thing that can be. Also fun fact, this movie was produced in a week, and ol' Jim never saw the first movie.

With that said, this movie has nothing to do with the last movie. They threw all that psychic-drama and backstory away to put five busty college girls into a separate sorority house with its own massacre... Continue »

Hey guys. So for December I had the 80s challenge in the slot. However, I am going to be super busy, and cannot host it. So does anyone want to host that challenge, or Do they have their own they want to try out? If so go for it! And I hope everyone has a good day!

This one doesn't get talked about much, but for a 4.5 slasher in the ideal decade for it, the movie ain't bad at all.

The film draws heavily from Halloween. The Los Angeles filming locations had me verifying that this wasn't the same suburban neighborhood, but it must be close. It also features a character named "Laura" who has some psychotic family issues, our killer is an escaped nutjob Myers clone without a mask, and he's after a group of young kids who can't seem to yell loud enough for the... I just noticed this recently. Mr. Hammond from Jurassic Park, Mr. Happer from Local Hero (1983), and Mr. Hadden from Contact (1997), are probably all thinly disguised fictional versions of Howard Hughes. Just think about it: they all have the H names, of course, but also they are all staggeringly rich, eccentric entrepreneurs and visionaries, who can function almost as gods in the movies they are characters in. Mr. Happer from Local Hero might have inherited his wealth, I forget... he's certa... Continue »

Just shooting the shit here. Internet forums in particular required a username to get by, so what are some of your old monickers on the world wide web?

I've gone by a few Ren & Stimpy names, as well as a bunch of Cornbugs song titles. Some of my nicknames were pro-communism, some of them were asinine... but most of them are Cornbugs songs. Cornbugs Cornbugs, everyone's a cornbug.

Also, with the death of message boards, I sadly no longer feel the need to create a new username ever. Not tha... Continue »

To clarify, this one isn't a turkey... but the next one is!

As the film's actual subtitle implies, this movie is set "The Next Day" after terrorizing Porky's bar out in the swamps, as well as getting Pee Wee laid. We have the same crew and the same sex-fueled hijinks, and most of them are still plenty amusing. I got a lot of good laughs out of the first movie, and almost as many this time.

I love the improv parts of certain scenes though. My favorite is when they're doing the whole graveyard a... Continue »

Another year (and what a shite one at that) and another October challenge done and dusted. Congratulations to those who completed the target of 31 horror movies in 31 days, and thanks to those that came back especially to contribute. I am sure Box would love you all to stick around or at least drop by when you can. Sadly I am embarrassed and ashamed to say that yours truly fell short but hey, there is always next year. A special congratulations to our overall winner,... Continue »

Is anybody else here a fan of this movie? I am one. It's not UNBELIEVABLY original... if you try to imagine a combination of the old Harrison Ford movie Frantic (1988) and The Bourne Identity (2002), you can imagine the general idea. There might be some elements of other Jason Bourne movies, and maybe even a little Trading Places (1982), in a totally non-comedy sort of way... and, there is, arguably, a little Resident Evil (2002) in there, too. OK, sorry, this is probably just a confusing w... Continue »

Okay... so just another reminder! Amber Heard Sucks, and Johnny Depp deserves better. I think he handled stepping down from his role very respectfully, but if he has to step down due to his controversy, shouldn't Amber Heard have to step down from her role in aqua man sequels? Personally I think this is all BS!

Nov '20
I am watching it on FX right now. Jesus. I keep thinking, people should use clips from this movie, from just before the explosion, to connote extreme pressure. Like, you know... pressure not to fail, pressure to do the right thing, to say the right thing, whatever... just any kind of psychological pressure that people feel. I guess I mean they should do it in comedy movies, but Deepwater Horizon is not funny at all. Whew.

This will be the third time they've tried to revive it, and the second time that the CW will try their hand at it. The CW though? Really? The guy doing it claims to want to make it a "sequel" series as similar to the original as possible, but you know that wont happen. They're going to fudge it up for sure, but I'll still keep my eyes on this one, just out of sheer curiosity.

Well I believe it was Snowy who made a topic not so long ago asking which movies brought tears to your eyes. I bet there must be music that make you feel likewise or just touched. Name some songs, music, artists or just even the voices.

I for example dream away by beautiful voices (mostly female). My examples:

Dolores O' Riordan (RIP) from the Cranberries. Even though Zombie and Salvation are the most known , John Lennon died is another powerful one. However Though I think Ode to my Family is... Continue »

As far as this year goes, my day has been pretty good. Halloween falls on a Saturday night, so I don't have to work tomorrow. I can sit back, get drunk and high, and watch horror flicks all night, and fall back an hour early tomorrow morning. I have pizza, I'm ready for trick-or-treaters, and I hope I don't exhaust myself too early, because this is Halloween NIGHT.

This month's challenge turned out alright. It's always good to see old faces making a triumphant return, though I'll always miss a... Continue »

This is pretty wild. She wasn't literally playing Rhonda Shear from USA Up All Night here, but... just sort of a similar character. It must have been really hard for her to play such an airhead, she always comes across as so intelligent. Her Wikipedia article said she was on a local show in Tulsa called Creature Feature, back in the early 80s when she was in her late teens, and maybe when she was 20. I was looking for that, but seeing her on this show from her Tulsa days, Night Shift, is pr... Continue »

The Blob (1958) theme song is pretty funny:

And we can't forget Spider Baby (1968):

Other great throwback tunes are the F13-3 theme, Monster Mash (that whole fucking album is great!), and most importantly... The Silver Shamrock jingle. I forgot to annoy people with that gag this year. I'm ashamed of myself.

Since I have no imagination of my own anymore, I let Amazon Prime recommend everything. I first saw this piece of shit in my early horror endeavors when it was shown in about 10 parts on youtube. Even then, this movie didn't impress me. However, I've grown to accept Fulci's shitty standards as a goldmine of stupid Italian subtleties. I get a good laugh out of them, and this movie gave me a few laughs.

It has something the do with spiritual revenge of old forces manifesting in zombie-esque figur... Continue »

What happens when those who just want to be left alone to live their lives finally reach their breaking point? What happens when the meek simply has too much going on that they finally lose all patience for people's bullshit? Right, probably not a hell of a lot. That's what makes them meek. Then there's this married couple who lives out in Hollywood, which is just no place for such mild-mannered people to be happy, and it seems as though they are sta... Continue »

I remember hearing a lot of positive things about The Gate, but walking away from it mostly apathetic. Due to a lack of choices, I gave the sequel a try, and the result wasn't too appauling.

Our protagonist is one of the kids from the first movie who can't seem to let the experience go. He holds a demonic seance to revisit the "other side" and ends up meeting a bully, his toadie, and the overly invested girlfriend played by Pamela Adlon (as Pamela Segall).

She sure was a cutie back then, wasn'... Continue »
