Netflix has been doing its Marvel shows to build into what we'd all expect to be the Avengers equivalent for the small screen. "The Defenders" features our four protagonists cross paths to fight The Hand, some ancient organization full of ninjas and mystical shit. They use the recently revived Elektra as their "weapon", and the misfit heroes have to join forces to put an end to it.

The show is kind of slow, but it has some good fight scenes. Yeah, the fight scenes are good... if you can actua... Continue »

This game came to my attention earlier today through a pre-release video review. While it's a new game, it's a throwback in both gameplay and graphics style to 1990's horror-themed first-person shooters such as Doom, Quake, and Blood. The trailer even makes blatant references to those first two.

Personally, I love what this game's going to feature. Heavy blood and gore, a large variety of weapons and some can apparently be dual wielded, options to dumb down the graphics further if the default... Continue »

So I played with one over the weekend. And it worked. I shit you not. I read online the reasons why Ouija boards seemingly work, and I'm sorry, but there's just no way in hell either of us subconsciously spelled out some of the things it said.

What are your experiences with Ouija boards? Are you a believer or not?

What's the most number of times you've jizzed in one day? I once jerked it 10 times in one day. I need to beat this record.

I know we all hate to discuss politics on here, but the North K situation is very frightening. That little fat guy is ready to nuke us, and we're ready to go to war over it. It's a reality we'll all soon face as the moment of truth happens in a week or less, when Guam gets bombed. We're all fucked. emoticon

Might as well go out talking about our favorite apocalypse scenarios. Which are your favorite scenarios? Which do you think are the most plausible?

I think the tech-pocalypse is very likel... Continue »

I was watching The IT Crowd, season 2 episode 2, and when Matt Berry came on-screen, I got so excited, I brought the bottle of whiskey to my mouth too fast and chipped my tooth. I'm going to have that for the rest of my life now! emoticon

Do you have any good stories for your scars and bone-breaks?

There was a poster on the old board who had a thread like this at the end of each week. She must not be here but it seems like somebody should be doing that here. Since no one is, I thought I'd do it.

I haven't had much time for movies lately but I just recently bought Murder Set Pieces and The Red Queen Kills Seven Times.

I just watched this movie and was an hour into it when I realized it's not a horror comedy, but an actual horror. It reminded me of a Naked Gun movie.

Italian Horror always gets so much credit, figured I'd give Spain a little love, as it has given us some truly unique gems over the years. Any fans of this stuff? I've seen quite a few, but mostly 70's Franco. Feel free to add any recs or opinions.

Today is the date of the Manson Family murders. So how many Manson-themed movies are there? I've only seen the original 1976 TV movie Helter Skelter, and another one called The Helter Skelter Murders that I never could find out anything about. I found it in a grocery store video rental section when I was in college in the 90s. It appeared to be very low budget and I can't find it listed anywhere. I'm not sure when it was made but at that time I assumed it was fairly new, but by the look of i... Continue »

American Honey has plenty going for it, beautiful cinematography, great naturalistic acting, dogs & mescal. However it also has, for me, a lot of negatives: a bum numbing 163mins with dozens of shots that are minutes longer than they need to be. An inordinate amount of musical sing along dance numbers that grate more an more as the film goes on. And a repetativeness in general as the story goes nowhere, seemingly recycling events every half hour or so.

I think this may have been done a few months ago, so I apologize in advance. Okay, so there may not be as many (good) movies to that of the vampire and zombie sub-genres. However, there still are a fair few of decent-to-great witch movies out there. They can be pretty atmospheric and creepy when done in the right way, with the right characteristics and components. I have constructed this list of what I really like (rated 7 and over) in the sub-genre. There are still a few I have to see, namely T... Continue »

I remember watching this years ago. I was pretty intoxicated when I seen it, but it stuck with me ever since. If you are expecting a simple cartoon, you are in for a surprise. It is a hard film to evaluate. It is one of the trippiest things you'll ever see, but on the other hand, it can be seen as a moral tale. Minimalist, thought-provoking, mezmerizing and bizarre, are words best used to describe it.

Anyone seen it? What did you think?

...or perhaps winning picks. Whatever the case may be. I am typically like Even Steven in this game.

My 30-1 shot just finished 2nd in the Woody Stephens, so I cover some bets with my WPS wager.

Italian horror movies, for the most part are renowned for their visual style, surreal music and atmosphere. There is a long and rich history going back decades, from the gothic horror to the giallo and everything in between. It is not just all about the celebrated trilogy of great directors in Mario Bava, Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci. There are many other directors who are impressive in their own right. A lot of great ideas and themes came from the country.

Italian horror never disappoints m... Continue »

Okay, this might not be the most orginal topic around, but the other day I was trying to construct a list of all the movies that I genuinely found creepy. Obviously, I am a grown man and horror movies don't scare me anymore. However, once in a while, a horror will come along that I do find creepy. Here is what I found to be creepy, at least to me:

The Demon Murder Case (1983 TV Movie): this is a movie that I only seen for the first time this year, and already, I must have seen it at le... Continue »

The X-Men series is a bit of a mess, honestly. The timeline doesn't make sense, not only because we did some time-traveling, but also because of lazy writing.

Here is my attempt at the series, chronologically speaking:
https://trashepics.com/timeline/?category=x-men (always changing...)

Some of the movies are turds. The original trilogy, for one, is kind of stupid, but goddamnit... Hugh Jackman is the man! After the third film left him nowhere to go, they made a shitty prequel that ruined a LOT of characters, and threw off the timeline of everything to buttfuckeryville. They also butchered Deadpool, but that's a whole different ballpark.

20th Century Fox shrugged, and made another prequel. One to start a new trilogy of X-Men films. Also... two more Wolverine movies! So that's a trilogy of X-trilogies! Original, Wolverine, and New... which is ironically set in the past. See? This shit is confusing. However, through shit and more shit, Hugh Jackman was always bad-ass. After 17 years, he's getting a little tired, but he's going out with a bang. Continue »

Thoughts?

If the aim is to repulse, then the movies definitely succeed.

In a way, that's something that a lot of horror doesn't achieve anymore.

They're even better when reviewed by a German!
