Can't a Horror film ever just be SO good that it's above having sequels? No, it can't. The better a movie is, the more of a chance it has of gaining a following. And the more of a following it has, the more of a chance there is of at least one sequel being made. Call it greed, call it smart. It can be annoying. Not always, but we've all been annoyed once or twice after hearing of plans to follow up on a story that needs no follow up. Most of th... Continue »

Housewife (2017) (Turkish Horror)

Haunted by a horrific childhood trauma for 20 years, a woman struggles with vivid, disturbing nightmares that leave her detached and unable to live a normal life. After being introduced to the leader of a cult, she is led on a twisted journey of waking dreams that will begin to unravel the fabric of reality. This film is loaded to the brim with atmosphere. It is set in winter and contributes a ton of moody visuals, fantastic lighting, and a solid s... Continue »

Halloween and horror go together hand in hand, but not all stuff with Halloween is horror. Sometimes, they go a very family-friendly route with that shit. We have the upcoming Goosebumps movie, for example. It's set on Halloween, hence the subtitle "Haunted Halloween", but it's kind of impossible for a movie to be family-friendly AND horror, don't you think?

I watched Eli Roth's new movie The House with a Clock in its Walls recently, and like most of you, I was wondering how Eli Roth c... Continue »

Surprisingly, I don't have that much. I love the season, I love seeing all the Halloween sales in stores, the specials on tv (hell, Robert Englund is coming back as Freddy for a tv special this year, for fuck's sake!), and I love that horror movies crawl out of the woodwork. I love that this day can decorate an entire month, but do I do much about it? Not really.

I usually don't do anything out of the ordinary on October 31st, because I get drunk and watch horror movies year round. But I stil... Continue »

Last few nights I've watched The Strange Ones and Spinning Man. Neither really qualify as horror, and neither are very good.

I've also preordered Trilogy of Terror, Perversion Story, Leonor and What have they Done to Your Daughters.

So I stumbled upon this remarkable project - a list of the 1,000 Greatest Horror Films implemented with a weighting system that allows a representation of the best that the horror genre has to offer. Some dedicated (kudos to him) fan of the horror genre created it and the list has grown in popularity over the last few years with a new edition for every year being released.

Now, I don't pretend to comprehend the system devised to come up with this list, and I won't debate it's authenti... Continue »

image I recently watched The Faculty for the countless time. I've always been a fan of that movie. Back in 1998, I was 11, not a fan of most horror, and I didn't know shit about sci-fi outside of The X-Files. Something about The Faculty appealed to me however. Was it the cast and characters? The late '90s music? The school setting I could sort of relate to? The body snatcher scenario? These days, the la... Continue »

I just logged on to my Letterboxd account and it never really registered with me until now how many titles I have seen this year so far. I have seen 330 titles to be exact, as of today - all FTVs, and all feature-length films. That breaks down to 182 horror films, and 148 non-horror films. A good mixture. It would be a safe bet to assume I will get over 400, possibly 500 before the year is out. Good grief! I need to get a life! It is down from 500 or so this time last year, but it is not bad con... I don't think we discuss the 60's horror movies very often here so I thought I would go ahead and discuss it...

So what are your favorite horror movies from the 60s?

What makes the 1960s such an interesting decade for horror films is thatโ€”without any build-up or warning from the previous decadeโ€”the genre started off so good in 1960 in Eyes Without a Face, Psycho, Peeping Tom and Black Sunday to name a few - that it was too much for most audiences. The more well-known directors made psy... Continue »

It's almost time for challenge season! October is getting nearer and nearer. We're gonna have Horror running outta our asses, soon. That's why September is our month to not only take a little break from our favorite genre before we delve in full-blast, but to also have a bit of a warm up challenge, if you will.

So, for the month of September, we're gonna geek out on any movie or tv show we want that offers even a little Sci-fi or Fantasy. That... Continue »

I remember making a series of these threads on the old board years ago, and it led to alot of interesting input. So, going by the lists below, which half of the decade do you think is superior?

I Drink Your Blood
The Vampire Lovers
Taste The Blood of Dracula
Scars Of Dracula
The Dunwitch Horror
The Wizard Of Gore
The House That Screamed
Count Yorga, Vampire
The Return of Count Yorga

The House That Would Not Die
Cry Of The Banshee

Bad movies, especially of the Horror genre, have always been subjective. What's so bad it's good, and what's worthless is usually a matter of opinion. But what's the difference? What separates "good bad" from "bad bad"? It doesn't matter how terrible a movie is. If it's boring, then, it's boring. And boring is boring. I think we can all agree on that. But what, above all, has made certain bad movies stand out over the years and gain a following? W... Continue »

Is anyone else getting stoked for October yet? Does anyone have an idea of what they what to watch? Do you have anything saved for it?

I know there is still three weeks to be exact to the kick-off of The October Challenge, and I know that there is a challenge underway, but I am starting to look forward to this years challenge. Time flies and it waits for no man. However, it is not just the challenge - I like this time of year, when the evenings are shorter. Leaves are falling and Autumn is ca... Continue »

Anybody watch this yet? I've liked the Predator series since I was a kid. The first is a fuckin' Schwarzenegger movie where he fights a goddamn alien in the jungle. How cool is that? Part 2 is a decent take where the location moves to the city, then we have those shitty AVP movies...

When I first saw AVP, I was really disappointed with it. They didn't put any effort into the story for that one. They had nothing new to say, and were mostly trying to cash-in on the crossover aspects of Freddy v... Continue »

Six Feet Under was phenomenal, One of the finest TV series ever imo. I have yet to come across another show that has effected me as much as this one had. I own the box set and recently had the pleasure of re-watching it again, and it was as though I hadn't seen it before. The whole range of emotions in this show. Poignant and at the same time very funny. The incredibly insensitive adverts were hilarious and the finale is the best ending to a TV show I have ever seen.

Was anyone here ever a fa... Continue »

I'm sure most of you are aware of the Predator controversy, and while this stuff shouldn't bother me as it was only a "small" scene that was removed, it really grinds my gears. Here we have Shane Black, a cool fuckin' guy, returning to his roots to direct "The Predator". It's got a decent cast of mostly males, because Predator is a fucking man's movie. It's always been about machisimo, but they've always had to throw in at least one prominent female character. In this case, Olivia Munn pl... Continue »

Well, this is something that sucks. This way of making movies, this way of targeting specific demographic groups for an audience. It wasn't always like this. There must have been a few threads about this here before, right? Anyway, here's another one.

I was watching the 2010-ish Straw Dogs yesterday, and, JESUS that was slanted. Holy shlamotherfuckingmoly. It's like something that might have been directed by the "liberal kook" maniac that Troma talks about. Everything about it. EVERYT... Continue »

70s vs 80s horror. A long discussed topic, though maybe losing its relevance the further in time we continue and the more distant those decades become. The way pre-70s horror really has no influence on me or my tastes, 70s-80s horror is an ancient relic to the current generation.

But anyway, that isn't really what this topic's about. I'm aging and out of touch and fine with that.

I'm team 80s horror all the way. The conundrum that I'm in is, for folks that prefer 70s horror, why? Yes,... Continue »

I just bought this sign for my door because I am so sick of these assholes invading my life every other week, often while I am napping. I really hope they take heed. How is this considered okay, to come banging on someone's door, unexpected, not even considering what kind of hours the occupants might keep? I don't even understand it, does this method ever actually work? I mean, people know churches exist, right? Are ther... Continue »

30 Days of Night is on, and it got me thinking about the Ben Foster character. A lot of vampire movies have a human or two who serve as some kind of accomplice or servant to a vampire master. They are almost like a witch's "familiar," in some ways... almost a pet.

Dracula had Renfield. In Salem's Lot, Barlow had Straker. In Fright Night, Jerry had Billy Cole. In The Forsaken (2001) (forgive me for even knowing what The Forsaken is, but I happened to watch it fairly recently, God help me)... Continue »

The 10-episode Hulu season has come to its end, so was it worth it?

It starts off kinda slow, because it's all setup, but around halfway through the season, you start to get an idea of where you're going with it. It's rather bizarre at times, and the later half of the season is back and forth in its continuity (but continuity itself plays a big part of this season). I started to like all these characters though, and the whole show was weird and moody enough. It does seem like something Step... Continue »
