This damn year is almost over. Share your thoughts, if you're capable of thinking and reflecting on this year. Christmas is yet to come, followed by the new year. Time for stress, resolutions, and probably mostly drinking.

Not much to report on my end. 2018 was okay. As always, we lost a few legends, we get a few new movies we fall in love with, and people shun each other over politics. Yada yada, and so forth...

I always want to do something better for TE each year, but my efforts general... Continue »

Last night, I got pretty drunk. Big surprise, there. I fell asleep to some Trailer Park Boys Xmas Special, and before I knew it, I found myself in the midst of a familiar territory that I've never been to. The outback. Continue »

When they announced that a live-action Venom movie was in the works, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and rumored to be on the Deadpool bandwagon of being R-rated... I got my hopes up. They even had talks of including Tom Holland's Peter Parker into the movie, which would have been even cooler to see Spider-Man in an R-rated movie.

Of course, the studios pussied out immediately and turned this Spider-Man spin-off into a sci-fi CGI fest. They changed it from New York to San Francisco,... Continue »

Welcome to the first Foreign/subtitled movie challenge which begins this coming Saturday at 00:01 local time.

To recap: Movies cannot be either in the English language or your native tongue if English isn't your first language (sorry, that's a no if you speak French and you want to watch French movies). And sure, if you are in Belgium or Canada, then British movies are still "foreign", but we are going for World Cinema here which generally refers to movies not in the English lan... Continue »

This is pretty interesting, and also quite creepy and disturbing, in multiple ways at once. I have seen both 1984 and 1987 given as the release date for it. I don't know which is correct, but I guess it was made in the 80's. This was done in the Soviet Union, in what is Uzbekistan today, I think. They changed some things around a little, but it's basically an adaptation of a Ray Bradbury story from the 1950's, which was included in The Martian Chronicles. Ray Bradbury got the title from a p... Continue »

A couple of days ago, I noticed Netflix added Hellraiser: Judgment (2018). I've always enjoyed the Hellraiser movies, but mainly due to Doug Bradley's performance as Pinhead. Sadly, this was another entry in the franchise without him, but this new actor was ok. Pinhead was now played by Paul T. Taylor, and as I said, he was ok, but one thing about him really bothered me, his voice. I know they deepened Doug Bradley's voice a bit, but this was overkill. He almost sounded like Darth Vader to me.... Continue »

I just posted this in the shout box, but, come on. He deserves his own thread. RIP Donald Moffat. Hey, he was in Sleepy Hollow, NY, when he died. Not a wholly inappropriate place to die, for a horror actor.

Remember Macauley Culkin? Home Alone was a great Christmas movie. I watched it a lot as a kid and I think it has some great vibes, and some great Christmas spirit. Remember when that old man with the shovel helps him? That's fuckin' Roberts Blossom, who played Ezra Cobb in "Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile" (1974), which is a great little movie about Ed Gein. I can't strike that connection from my memory. Like why the hell was his name Roberts, and not Robert? WTF?

Hell, I even watched "Home Alone" when my theater re-released it a few years ago. It has a lot of good things going for it, and there was one hell of a kid right there. Macauley, what a weird name... but he's been in some cool shit. Mostly, these two movies, and "Party Monster". But he's always had a soft spot for his character of Kevin McAllister, and has reprised the role (sort of?) in that video from a few years back where he shows what a fucked up person Kevin turned out to be, due to the traumatic experiences he faced when Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern tried to murder him on two separate occasions. In regular movie terms, that shit is funny, but in real-life situations, it would scar the kid for life, and that's what that video was about. Good shit.

So a few days ago, James Rolfe did a review of these goddamn video games about Home Alone... so many of these pieces of shit, but who joined him? The pizza guy! Watch this shit! Continue »

Back in the days of the video rental store boom, I rented from alot of different places. One of which was Blockbuster. Despite being known for offering the most popular titles in cinema, the one I went to offered an unusual amount of offbeat B-movies. Especially in the Horror section. Even a few obscure ones here and there. I remember renting such films as Beyond The Darkness, Vampyres and Silent Night Deadly Night, all from Blockbuster. I even... Continue »

I haven't seen an awful lot of Jean Rollin but I do really enjoy the almost dreamlike quality to his movies. I only have seen The Grapes of Death (1978) and The Iron Rose (1973). I rated those both an eight.

I want to watch more of his movies.

This is a list of what I think may be his best movies to watch:

Two Orphan Vampires (1997)
The Living Dead Girl (1982)
A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973)
The Night of the Hunted (1980)
Fascination (1979)
Lips of Blood (1975)
Requiem for... Continue »

Watched this last night for the first time in years. I didn't remember much about it other than the fact that it takes place during Christmastime - despite being the most un-Christmassy Christmas movie ever - and that it's completely and totally bonkers.

For those who don't know what it's about, I'll try and summarize: a brother and sister, along with brother's new girlfriend, are in town to spend the holidays with their mom and mom's boyfriend. Mom's boyfriend is "a good old boy" who wants... Continue »

Okay, this is a really good movie. A serial killer who makes his victims into art recounts several of his killings. It's all shown in very classy and sophisticated way, and Matt Dillion gives an awesome performance. In the last half hour, things take a very strange and unexpected turn, becoming much more of an arthouse film.

But I think I may have been duped, and actually ended up with the R-rated version. If it was truly the director's cut that I watched, it's not anywhere near as brutal as... Continue »

I've always been an avid reader. I don't recall many times in my life where I didn't have a book in my hand. Back in high school, I recall the public library in my town was having a book sale. I noticed The Exorcist novel right away. I had already seen the movie. My dad was and still is a Sunday school teacher, so I had to sneak and rent the movie. The movie really freaked me out and still doe... Continue »

Yup... that's another one for the fire. The older you get, the more people you like are dying off. Sondra Locke was known mostly for her roles in a handful of Clint Eastwood movies, whom she was romantically involved with at the time. Granted, the two broke up and have been somewhat hostile with ever since. Not sure of the details, but I will say that I enjoyed her roles in those movies that I've seen. I love Every Which Way but Loose and Any Which Way You Can, but she was also in... Continue »

Long-time Turkey Challenge participants my remember I would write a Notes from the Turkeyground every year in early December. The point was the reminisce over the whole experience of the previous month. It was just a month ago, how much reminiscing could one do? If youโ€™re asking that question, you havenโ€™t been turkeying right! The Turkey Challenge is a time-bending ordeal, a gauntlet of cinematic atrocities, out of which you emergeโ€ฆ pretty much the same, except youโ€™ve seen a lot more shi... Continue »

Of the 225 draft picks, there were 35 I had not seen. Now there are only two, both from Zed. I have not been able to find Heavy Metal Massacre or Reflections anywhere to stream or download.

13. The Head (1959)
15. The Conjuring 2 (2016)

I have to admit, it is often hard for me to get into pre-Exorcist horror movies. The Head is not one of the exceptions. It was kind of rough going for me.
The Conjuring 2 is a movie I never thought I was going to watch, considering my thoughts... Continue »

What's everyone's thoughts on John Rambo, and the Sylvester Stallone series based on a novel character who originally wasn't supposed to survive the first movie? I hardly think that's a spoiler, considering we're getting Rambo V, tentatively subtitled "Last Blood" as an homage to the original title, which in nowhere had the word "Rambo" in it. Hell, the whole series has a funny way of naming things:

First Blood (1982) - They drew first blood. Okay.
Rambo: First Blood Part II... Continue »

Liverleaf (2018) (Japanese Horror)

This is about a relatively small group of students in a school that will be closed after they graduate in a few months. There is rampant bullying on premises. As a viewer, you just know something bad is going to happen . . . and it does. After that pivotal event, there are violent repercussions. This film has certain similarities to Japanese exploitation films from the 1990s, but it distinguishes itself by playing with its tone. This creates acts of vi... Continue »

I thought about making this thread a sticky emoticon, but I don't know..and thought about limiting it to Horror, but that would exclude some great trashy exploitation B and Z grade gems. I'll start off with two of my favorites.

Everyone knows the best type of bad movie is a weird one, right? Well, it is. Every decade has that really, really weird one that stands out and refuses to leave your brain, even if you'd prefer it had never entered to begin with. More recently, the new millennium has given us the gift that quite literally keeps on giving. That's right, The Room. However, most recently, as of 2016, The Room finally has to move on over for the new weird kid in town.... Continue »
