Well I believe it was Snowy who made a topic not so long ago asking which movies brought tears to your eyes. I bet there must be music that make you feel likewise or just touched. Name some songs, music, artists or just even the voices.

I for example dream away by beautiful voices (mostly female). My examples:

Dolores O' Riordan (RIP) from the Cranberries. Even though Zombie and Salvation are the most known , John Lennon died is another powerful one. However Though I think Ode to my Family is... Continue »

As far as this year goes, my day has been pretty good. Halloween falls on a Saturday night, so I don't have to work tomorrow. I can sit back, get drunk and high, and watch horror flicks all night, and fall back an hour early tomorrow morning. I have pizza, I'm ready for trick-or-treaters, and I hope I don't exhaust myself too early, because this is Halloween NIGHT.

This month's challenge turned out alright. It's always good to see old faces making a triumphant return, though I'll always miss a... Continue »

This is pretty wild. She wasn't literally playing Rhonda Shear from USA Up All Night here, but... just sort of a similar character. It must have been really hard for her to play such an airhead, she always comes across as so intelligent. Her Wikipedia article said she was on a local show in Tulsa called Creature Feature, back in the early 80s when she was in her late teens, and maybe when she was 20. I was looking for that, but seeing her on this show from her Tulsa days, Night Shift, is pr... Continue »

The Blob (1958) theme song is pretty funny:

youtube

And we can't forget Spider Baby (1968):

Other great throwback tunes are the F13-3 theme, Monster Mash (that whole fucking album is great!), and most importantly... The Silver Shamrock jingle. I forgot to annoy people with that gag this year. I'm ashamed of myself.

Since I have no imagination of my own anymore, I let Amazon Prime recommend everything. I first saw this piece of shit in my early horror endeavors when it was shown in about 10 parts on youtube. Even then, this movie didn't impress me. However, I've grown to accept Fulci's shitty standards as a goldmine of stupid Italian subtleties. I get a good laugh out of them, and this movie gave me a few laughs.

It has something the do with spiritual revenge of old forces manifesting in zombie-esque figur... Continue »

What happens when those who just want to be left alone to live their lives finally reach their breaking point? What happens when the meek simply has too much going on that they finally lose all patience for people's bullshit? Right, probably not a hell of a lot. That's what makes them meek. Then there's this married couple who lives out in Hollywood, which is just no place for such mild-mannered people to be happy, and it seems as though they are sta... Continue »

I remember hearing a lot of positive things about The Gate, but walking away from it mostly apathetic. Due to a lack of choices, I gave the sequel a try, and the result wasn't too appauling.

Our protagonist is one of the kids from the first movie who can't seem to let the experience go. He holds a demonic seance to revisit the "other side" and ends up meeting a bully, his toadie, and the overly invested girlfriend played by Pamela Adlon (as Pamela Segall).

She sure was a cutie back then, wasn'... Continue »

Something made me think of this movie recently... not sure what.

Directed by Ti West, and starring Tom Noonan and Larry Fessenden... OK, that makes it sound way better than it is. It's not bad though, IMHO.

It has the feel of a 70s B movie. Very low budget... some friends get lost and end up having encounters with some (more or less) vampire bats and zombies, in and around an old barn. It's the kind of thing you might imagine Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, etc doing, if they had some extra film... Continue »

So I've been having a hard time lately. And one thing I always like doing is looking up quotes or repeating quotes to make me feel better. There are two quotes that I tend to think of. The first is:

"The Hardest thing in this world is to live. Be brave. Live."-Buffy Summers

The second:

"Happiness be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."- Albus Dumbledore

These two quotes are from the two things that got me through man issues as a kid. And they br... Continue »

16 years after the original trash epic, a remake surfaced from the depths of tv-movie hell that's been relatively obscure until youtube came to the rescue. This one changes the plot a bit to revolve around convicts that are mutated into sea monsters, but it still utilizes a lot of the same ideas (and footage) from the original movie. Chemicals are still being used to grow salmon in a beach community, and a few of the scenes are very reminiscent of the original.

Hell, the whole climax uses a lot... Continue »

Oh boy... Even the description of this movie regards it as a blatant rip-off of Aliens. It's such a rip-off in fact that I'm surprised they didn't get their asses sued for this shit.

What we have here is a story about a dystopian Venice where the water and air is polluted and people don't go outside. The majority of the film takes place in an industrial setting very reminiscent of the colony in Aliens. We also have a team of marines working with some evil corporation for some reason, and before... Continue »

Okay, so after catching the David Lynch Allusion in Buffy last night, I want to hear some of y'all's favorites, or just some you guys caught. Shows and movies allude to different works of pop culture, people, and ideas. I thought it could be fun!

A favorite of mine is from Friends. When phoebe finds out her sister is doing porn in her name, and one of the films is Buffay the Vampire Layer! This gets me every time!

I also tend to love it when actors play a character that alludes to one of th... Continue »

This is the movie I picked to start off my October Challenge. It's about a photographer (Bradley Cooper) who is pushed into getting pictures of the dark side of the city, and he quickly gets tangled up in the exploits of a madman (Vinnie Jones) who butchers people on the... midnight meat train.

It held my interest for most of the movie. It dabbles in a cat and mouse game with some super gore scenes, because this is based on a Clive Barker story. There are plenty of tense scenes throughout the m... Continue »

I just saw this On Demand, or possibly on Youtube, a week or so ago. It isn't really super super super hardcore or disturbing, like A Serbian Film, Mermaid in a Manhole, or whatever. But, I found that I respected it for what it is. It's just a horror anthology of overlapping stories, with varying amounts of comedic elements, and it is basically ABOUT Halloween, unlike, say, Halloween.

The way the movie is structured is pretty interesting. If you try to imagine a combination of Pulp Fictio... Continue »

I wonder if Ghost Shop influenced the Silent Hill movie? Wait... the first Silent Hill video game already existed before Ghost Ship was filmed, so maybe it all started with the video game. I have never played it, I don't know what it was like.

Just the LOOK of both movies is very similar. The settings. All the rust on the walls and metal structures in the ship, is very similar to the rust on every surface in the old mining town, especially when they go into the most hellish dimension. Also,... Continue »

This one isn't talked about much. It was directed by Lucky McKee, who most people know for "May". This movie is set in 1965 with a girl being sent to a private school in the woods by her bitch of a mother and her seemingly reasonable father, played by BRUCE CAMPBELL. That's right.

The narrative seems heavily inspired by Suspiria and... to no surprise... Evil Dead. Our protagonist Heather doesn't want to be here, but she bears with the school bullies and bitch teachers because her parents (mostl... Continue »

I just saw this On Demand, yesterday. It was free, I hope, unless I screwed something up. Anyway, it's not bad!

It's the story of a group of people in their 20s who are working in a theatrical troupe. The troupe is run by one character, Alan, who is such a complete asshole right from the beginning that it actually makes the movie a little hard to stick with, at times. Seriously, I don't think he even takes five seconds off, from being a jerk to everyone. He reminds me of the character who... Continue »

I don't have anything lined up for this month. I'm just watching whatever is available on streaming, and this one popped up. I remember being unenthused by the trailers that presented this as an action extravaganza war flick, but I bit the bullet and gave it a shot... and was pleasantly surprised.

This movie begins with a group of WW2 soldiers getting dropped into a shit show for a mission to blow a Nazi tower, but what they stumble across is a lot more than they expected. Wyatt Russell leads... Continue »
