I was just thinking, if anybody here has video editing ability, ELO's Fire on High could make pretty interesting music to accompany the famous Night on Bald Mountain segment, from Fantasia. Actually, this is not really an original thought. Somebody left a comment under the YouTube video for Firee on High saying this: " In my imagination the โ€œgothicโ€ intro was like a misty eerie predawn fog and the instrumentals got โ€œsunnierโ€ and more epic as a new day just began. Like someone emerging... Continue »

I'm all caught up now.

MI1 - I remember a lot of hype for this when it came out. Not really worth that hype, but I guess it's not as boring as some other spy movies. At this point, Brian De Palma started to decline.

MI2 - I did watch it. I swear. But I wasn't paying attention because it was boring me and thus I forgot it entirely. Some motorcycle... some Metallica song...

MI3 - Finally, a more engaging entry. This is where JJ Abrams stepped in, and it starts out wi... Continue »

I gave this a whirl, but I'm not caught up on the other shows. Never saw Yellowstone, and I didn't even know there was another prequel show "1883". It's pretty decent so far. What a weird time, though. It's set after the first World War, but there are still new frontiers to conquer.

There are a few threads going on. The main one has Harrison Ford running his land in regard to resources and boundaries, another has a war vet hunting animals in Afirca, and then you have a sadistic catholic school... Continue »

Paramount+ premiered the first episode today. Stallone's never done a tv show, so this is quite interesting. His crew sends him to take over Tulsa, and there's a bit of culture shock to a guy who spent a quarter of a century in the big house.

I visited Tulsa once. I stayed at some hotel and looked out the window at the downtown big buildings and all that, but man... what a ghost town. There was nobody on the streets, no cars... seemed like something you'd see in a zombie apocalypse. And that's... Continue »

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February) - How are we going to handle Kang?! He's obviously the main reason to be interested, because he'll be so integral to the upcoming slate.

Cocaine Bear (February) - Ray Liotta's final film. The premise sounds GREAT. Will that type of animal horror subgenre make a triumphant return?

Creed III (March) - My guess is that Rocky will be deceased at this point, because why wouldn't the character make an appearance otherwise? Did Stallon... Continue »

So I finally got around to watching the Sci-fi channel show From. I'm currently 8 episodes in with 2 more to go in season 1. I'm finding that the mystery of what's happening really draws me in. In a nutshell, and this is established very early in the show, people arrive at a town and find that they are unable to leave. To make matters worse, as soon as darkness falls the monsters come out. The show likes to drop little bits of information for you every so often which only serves to deepen the my... Continue »

In years past I would've said strictly horror but the output of films of recent years dulls in comparison to the days of the HB. Last year I had a tough time making a top 10 list including all genres. This year I'm having a tough time making 5 albeit there are a lot of films I have yet to see this year including The Northman, Pearl, RRR and I hear good things recently about The Menu. I thought it was another subpar year for cinema but here it goes...

Barbarian
X
Everything Everywhere All At Onc... Continue »

Not the worst Christmas slasher. Overshadowed by the ultimate SNDN from the same year, this London-set holiday horror has a few things to offer. There's a body-count straight away. We don't have a killer Santa here, but rather a guy who kills Santas because he hates Christmas, due to some backstory which is only revealed in a dream at the end? Yeah, I don't get it either, but it's a nice scene.

It's a mean spirited movie. Our kills aren't that graphic, but they're still pretty cool. Stabbings t... Continue »

These are all going to be first time views except the last four, so any thoughts are welcome.

It's that time of the year again, folks! 2022 is almost over, so here we are to wrap up our year with some traditional Christmas shennanigans.

image No gimmicks this year. 1 point per minute watched. Christmas movies, Christmas TV show episodes, Christmas specials, and for good measure, New Years movies/episodes will also count.

The challenge will run all month, from December 1st at 12AM to January 1st at... Continue »

I watched this found footage on the Tubi earlier and it was pretty entertaining. This angry virgin loser who lives with his mom and has no friends films his whole life and goes on about what a miserable piece of shit he is and how much he hates women for not fucking him. He used to have 2 friends but I'm guessing he screamed at them too much. He gets in touch with them and convinces them to go on a road trip with him after guilt tripping them by claiming he has brain cancer with 2 weeks left to... Continue »

This one sorta falls under the Christmas horror blanket. What I'm about to say isn't so much a spoiler as it is the primary setup for the movie, but it begins with a family on the verge of a divorce. The wife is very upset about it, and then I started thinking, "Hey, I recognize that lady... it's Alicia Silverstone! I didn't know she was-" ... and then she blows her brains out. emoticon Wow! Okay then...

So our family's father has his two kids head out to "The Lodge" for Christmas to... Continue »

I'm late to the party on this because I wasn't entirely thrilled by the idea of a native-american prequel, BUT... I did end up enjoying it. The plot kicks off with that dreaded idea of a woman having to prove herself, but considering the 1719 time period, it veers more into historical relevance rather than modern feminist. No more beefcakes this time around, but our leading lady does a good job.

While predators are always the main hunters, this story has our human characters very reliant on the... Continue »

Shudder gifted us with another one of those evil Santa Claus movies. Aren't there enough of those already? I put it on for background noise, but the vivid lighting and punky overtones got me invested from the get-go.

In the first minute of the movie, we're given all the setup that we need. A robotic Santa has been deployed for consumer purchase, and who gives a fuck about the specifics of his programming. I absolutely loved that this movie didn't bother explaining things any further than that.... Continue »

I watched this, this past weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect, because it only has a 3.3 average rating on IMDB, but apparently it won the Best Picture award at the L.A. Film Festivel this past summer.

Soooo, I guess I have mixed feelings about it. As a proud member of this board, I was hoping that the 3.3 rating came from senseless, gratuitous violence, nudity, general mayhem and carnage, yadda yadda yadda. Sadly, I don't think those are the reasons for its low rating.

I think they tried... Continue »

I didn't know this was a Tommy Wirkola movie. The Dead Snow movies were okay. Decent effort there, but nothing groundbreaking. This one here, VIOLENT NIGHT, instantly seems comparable to Fat Man (2020) with Mel Gibson, another recent effort to depict Santa as a bad-ass version capable of kicking some ass.

The description likens it to Die Hard and Home Alone, which is partially accurate. I feel Home Alone has plenty of leisure before the conflict, but our movie... Continue »

When I was halfway through high school in the mid-2000s, I had to move. I'd been in that town and school district for 7 years and it was good to me. Suddenly, I had to leave all that behind for a shittier school where I couldn't make friends or maintain my grades.

I became a recluse. I had saved enough money to buy my first computer at a mere/whopping $600, so I learned to get by with dvds and mp3s. Suffice to say, I was pretty cool, but not that cool. I still had a lot to learn about pe... Continue »

There aren't a lot of horror films that want to compete with H-Ends this season, but here's one of them.

It's kinda like that Ring curse. And kinda like the It Follows curse. The smile demon (for lack of a better name) drives you mad, then you smile at someone and kill yourself in front of them, traumatizing them into the same curse. Also, is he even a thing? Can he be defeated? Or is it all psychological? After all, there sure are a lot of dream sequences. And jump scares.

Sounds pretty stand... Continue »

Hey, am I doing something wrong here? Aren't there some threads here about Nope? I can't find any. I could swear I've seen people talking about it here. Maybe we have talked about it on a thread about other Jordan Peele movies. Hmmm.

Well, I will come back and say more about it later today, but just for the moment I wanted to mention that if you like Nope, you might also enjoy the less well-known Monsters (2010), starring Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able. I shouldn't say too much about why... Continue »

I was watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation the other day. Good flick, but the ending peeves me, due to his views on his Christmas bonus. He started making all these plans for what he'd spend his bonus on, like a swimming pool, putting down-payments on it, but then his boss stiffs him on the bonus and he goes on a rant about how it's not right to deny people of their bonuses when they rely on them as part of their income.

Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of a BONUS? You sh... Continue »

God, these movies are awful. It really is sadistic of anyone stupid enough to use these movies for points, and damn it... I'm one of them.

Mark Polonia shits out about 8 movies a year. His budget is probably zilch, but so are the stories, acting, effects, and purpose. I keep thinking to myself, "Why is he still making this garbage?" and the only thing I can think of is an inside joke of sorts. I imagine he lost a bet, or thought it would be funny to make a living off of directing sheer g... Continue »

Most of these streaming services suck, but I caved and got a few of them because the deals were so good. A year of Hulu for $24, a year of Peacock for $12, and 3 months of HBO for $6.

These are all the ad-filled versions though. These ads get excessive sometimes. Sometimes, Tubi gives me 7 fucking ads in a row. Netflix is also doing an ad version now, but I very rarely watch it. I was thinking of downgrading it, but it comes at the cost of lower picture quality, which is a real dick move. It's... Continue »

I really can't say much about it without spoiling it, but it's definitely an interesting ride. You don't know wtf it's about for a while. You think you have an idea, then it turns into something different. I did appreciate that it had a defined 3-act structure to keep us on our toes. It seems like abrupt differences in tone, but it all comes together. A good mix of slow-burn with some more traditional horror elements toward the end.

I also like how shitty Detroit feels in this movie. It would b... Continue »
