Rami Malek nailed it. His big teeth didn't even bother me.

Eventually, that new Candyman movie might come out, so in the meantime, I decided to check out 2 and 3. It's only taken me so long because I really don't care about Candyman at all, and that's not a knock at Tony Todd. That dude is great, but is Candyman great? emoticon

Here we have a supernatural "horror icon" who kills anyone who says his name. Kinda like that one guy who's name you don't say above a whisper. You know, MADMAN MARZ?! Well, once you say it, you're basically screwed so you might a... Continue »

A government program sends an (almost) brain dead soldier back in time to stop a terrorist attack.
One of those movies that I knew about, heard was really good, but never got around to watching.
Never been a fan of time loop stories (Groundhog Day an exception). Looks like I have another to add to the list.

A couple with a daughter suffering from cancer have another daughter medically engineered to be a donor to her older sister.
This was the next movie in the stack, and once again, I was surprised at how much I liked it. Has strong potential to be a tear-jerker, unless you are cold and emotionless like I claim to be.
Another star-studded cast: Cameron Diaz (really good), Alec Baldwin, Jason Patric, Joan Cusack, Emily Deschanel (Bones), and Little Rock herself, Abigail Breslin (as the younger sis... Continue »

I was too high and/or lazy to get up and get my copy of Hell of The Living Dead off the shelf the other night but found it on the Youtube under this title. Been a while. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a viewing of this movie quite so much. In fact, after a dozen or so viewings over the years, I think this may finally be my new favorite Italian exploitation/horror film, replacing Burial Ground... or was it Beyond The Darkness? Yeah, fuckin' A! This one has it all: Stolen music from Dawn Of The D... Continue »

What are some good ones? I was watching one of the Resident Evil movies the other day, and it made me think of this. "The Axeman," AKA The Executioner Majini, from Resident Evil: Afterlife, would be pretty good to watch in a celebrity death match with Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. Actually, that's a bad one to start this thread with, because it's pretty hard to beat... I'm sure some of us can come up with something good, though. What comes to mind for you?

Wait, one other one would be Jody... Continue »

A farmer is tasked to get the leader of a murderous gang to Yuma to face justice.
One of those few movies where the original didn't vastly outshine the remake. Both were very good.
Glenn Ford is the standout as Ben Wade. He could have been smoother, but it wouldn't have been easy. Van Helfin did a great job as the reluctant hero, thrust into a position he didn't want to be, but forced to in order to try and save his farm.
Great story that really didn't need to have a lot of action. The best sce... Continue »

Three cheerleaders need to rescue their sensei after he was kidnapped, all while stripping to pay their college tuition.
Why this only has a 3.3 on IMDB I do not know. It was fun, funny, had decent acting, and three hot girls (though we don't get to see them strip down).
Plus it has George Takei.

It's been years since I watched this, so I felt a need to dust off the dvd, and I'm glad I did. This movie was a blast. Basically the culmination of Italian zombie movies. It's as if Fulci actually understood the genre for a change, and he understood it perfectly!

This movie wastes no time getting started. We have an outbreak after a sabateur steals a military virus, spreads the love at a nearby resort, and bam! Zombies galore.

What surprised me is how competent this movie was. Some of the sce... Continue »

A former soccer star tries to get back into his ex-wife and son's life.
Pretty star-studded flick. Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dennis Quaid, Judy Greer.
Pretty average movie in this genre. A few touching father/son scenes, and the ever present misunderstanding. And Uma Thurman in her underwear.

A doctor is shocked to discover his brother is a vampire.
There wasn't really anything in this movie that did anything for me. It just existed, and will quickly fall into one of those movies that I will have no idea if I've seen or not.
Basic plot, some pretty bad acting, cheap sets, and a vampire without fangs.

The world of a cappella on college campuses. I went in not knowing much about it, but the one thing I did know is that I probably wasn't going to enjoy it. I ended up with a stack of DVDs, and this was next in the pile.
This was a surprisingly strong movie. The singing was really good (as it would have to be), had a lot of great humor also, and one of those "What the fuck?" moments where I had to rewind and make sure I heard what I thought I did.
If a couple of the humor scenes didn't fall compl... Continue »

This is a period piece chronicling the life of Georgiana Spencer, the Duchess of Devonshire.
I really enjoyed it. But then, I do like period piece movies and biographical films, of which this was both.
Keira Knightley was really good in this. There were scenes where she didn't have to say a word,, it was all expressed through the eyes. And when she was on the platform as Charles Grey gave his first speech? Yowzaaa...
Ralph Fiennes was very good as The Duke. Played it very stodgy, as I'm sure a... Continue »

A police captain's friend is murdered, and he and the famous Detective Wong investigate and end up surrounded by murders.
Nothing really stands out in this film, but it is very derivative of the Torchy Blane films from the mid to late 30s.

Yes, this is the movie directed by Fred Durst, and it's surprisingly competent. I wont say it's great, but John Travolta is great as the obsessive and almost child-like fan. A boy in a grown man's body who is obsessed with Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa) and plots some incriminating ways to get an autograph after he misses out on a book-signing opportunity.

Devon Sawa is also good. After watching this and Escape Plan 3, I wonder why we don't see more of him. Still, this is mostly a story about Holly... Continue »

Would have been cooler if it was a MASKED stalker.

There's a guy at work who has decided to make it his job to ensure I am wearing a mask.
I was in his office area where 3 of the 8 people wear masks, and I wasn't. He asked me to put one on, I said "Sure" and went about my business. Bear in mind I have been in that office area maybe ten times in the past year.
In the past two days he found me in the lunchroom and twice on the plant floor, and asked me to wear a mask.
But he passes right by other... Continue »

First off, is this movie a Hellraiser rip-off? Sorta. The cover art features a pinhead-esque villian named Razorface. He isn't the main villain though. John Saxon plays a psychotic cult leader who injects drugs into people to create his evil cenobite-like servants while David Emge uses a crossbow with a counterdrug to melt their brains. And somehow, this movie STILL sucks.

I've fallen off the Nolan bandwagon a bit over the years, but this one was alright. It's basically Christopher Nolan's big and overblown Hollywood version of "In the Shadow of the Moon", but I'm not complaining. With all the weird sci-fi shit he does, it's about time that he did something with time-travel.

Does it make sense though? Eh, it makes enough sense I guess. Nolan is big on introducing huge high concept sci-fi and leaving the mechanisms to the imagination, or flat out making up... Continue »

My most recent foray into action/exploitation. This one directed by Cirio H. Santiago who has what seems like an unlimited filmography in this category. This is right up there with one of his more entertaining.

There is absolutely no plot or character development in this one. They just get right into it. Basically a girl goes to the Philippines to find her sister who disappeared. She runs into drug dealers and even a Bloodsport type martial arts tournament where people fight to the death. She... Continue »

My rating out of 10
IMDB rating at date of listing
Movie run time
MPAA rating

A couple years ago I was looking for a horror podcast to listen to while at work, and I came across Lore.
It delves into bizarre and true stories from around the world. Most of the ones I listened to had a dark edge to them. Some had a sharp edge, especially axes.
Some are about well-known stories, such as the Jersey Devil and Lizzie Borden. Others are some I never heard of.
They range from 30 minutes to an hour. Check it out if interested
And when you do, make sure you say hi to Aaron Mah... Continue »

I wont go into too much detail, but I've always liked Frank Grillo. He is one smooth motherfucker and I love seeing him be bad-ass. Mel Gibson doesn't have as meaty of a role as he did in Fatman, but put him in any movie and it'll be better. The science behind the time-loop is negligable compared to the action and comedy it provides, but at this point, is there anything more to say about time-loop movies? The protagonist goes through trial and error, tries to be a better person, yada yada...

All I can say is wow. Can't believe it took me this long to watch. One the best bad movies I have seen in a long time. This movie should be the poster child of a board like this. It is so badly hilarious at times with the acting, dubbing and scenarios and then other times amazingly brutal with its violence.

I actually started to watch this on Tubi the other day but then looked into it and found out it was edited. The only unedited version I could find was the DVD directly through Full Moon so... Continue »
