I'm not a gamer and haven't been for 20 years but I've read and heard from friends that are and it's one of their favorite games of all time even if the sequel shat the bed. So I went into this new HBO series with an open mind even as I said to myself do we really need another zombie apocalypse just after the anti-climatic ending to The Walking Dead? Eh...it wasn't bad, actually surprised me some. I rather liked Pedro Pascal early in his career, thought he was great in GOT as Prince Oberen and even liked him in crap like Bloodsucking Bastards for what it was at the time. Not so much lately in films like Wonder Woman 1984 and Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent but he pulls off a decent part here in The Last of Us imo. The only drawback in this premiere ep of this new series was the casting of the 2nd lead in the character Elle, she doesn't seem to have much acting chops and she kinda reminds me of Eric Stoltz in the film Mask...anyways, thoughts anyone?

Haven't watched and I've never played it, but people apparently did love the first game. The game characters looked more like Dylan McDermott and Ellen Page, but I guess that wasn't a possibility anymore, since one of them went trans. And lol at the Eric Stoltz comment, I can kinda see it now. Funny enough, they still copied Ellen/Elliot by putting a trans/non-binary character in that role. God, I hate how uncertain people are of themselves this days. Yet the article I read about that in still referred to "her" as a "her" instead of a them/they/it/Eric-Stoltz-Mask-Person.

You know me dude, as does everybody here by now... I'm a douche by nature and I call em as I see em unapologetically. Honest to a fault but would you really want me to curb myself and act differently here?...fn boring.

I found the first episode to be pretty interesting. Mainly the first half. The second dragged a little for me, but still pretty good. At least good enough to continue next week. We'll see how it goes.

Comparisons to The Walking Dead are inevitable, I guess, even though it's more similar to 28 Days Later, making it a bit more realistic. Plus, in this, we actually get to see the beginning, which then fast forwards through all those years of adjustment, ultimately making it different than TWD, at least in that respect.

I definitely agree the 1st half was better than the 2nd. I thought that the girl that played Joel's daughter was really good in her part. It is more of an infection than a the dead coming alive type story, it's just I'm tired of the post apocalyptic storyline where the survivors are more to be worried about than the zombies or infected...can I root for the infected in this one?!

I thought the concense the story in the sequel even improved on the first (unusual in stories be they either books, films or games) yes I also read some ppl didnt like parts of the story in the sequel but from what I've read most of those were hottakes made by ppl who actually didnt play the game, as they were talking about stuff that didnt occur in the game (A lot like the moral panic of parents complaining about horror films of metal albums in the 80s, who make up their minds just looking at the cover and don't actually watch/listen to the media ).

I don't play games, but this is one I do want to try sometime, once I get some freetime (and cash, hopefully in a year or two)

with a lot of ppl saying its the best game they have ever played (oys rare now for a medium to move me), so prolly will not want to watch the film and spoil it.

I don't wanna ruin it for you but knowing people who played the game and the sequel, they didn't like like how characters from the original were treated in the second. I'm sure the game will be stretched out over 3-4 seasons in the series.

Thoughts on ep 3 anyone? Well allow me...can you say 80 mins of unnecessary filler? Besides Joel and Ellie obtaining a vehicle how else did this ep forward the story?

It is a very well made beautiful, heartbreaking love story that did next to nothing to move the overall story forward. HBO, WB and Druckman made this for the publicity and headlines. You can watch eps 1&2, skip 3, watch 4 and you wouldn't miss a heartbeat story-wise. In other words it was a filler episode.

Melanie Lynskey the Warlord of Kansas City!...this is a good show, no really it really is a good show! I'm done with this absurd ridiculous shit. 60 seconds of infected in the past 2 episodes of 120 minutes runtime. Ballz, Troma, whoever wants to take over this thread is welcome to it... I'm out. (claps hands like a blackjack dealer at the end of a shift)

Eh...I stopped watching after the forth ep. I watched a YT review on both 5&6 eps by gamers who kinda rip the series cause they've moved so far away from the game, the source material. I don't care for most of the actors who were cast for the show personally. Joel is supposed to be a violent alpha-male and Pascal just isn't it. It's the direction of the show and I understand it isn't his fault they changed it for the series but he's dull and boring. Lady Mormont as Elle just doesn't do it for me as well. Then they bring in Lynskey as some unbelievable Warlord of KC which the reviewers I watched laughingly call the Karen boss which isn't wrong imo. I heard she bought it by infected at the end of ep 5. Good riddance I suppose. The show is super agenda driven and just not for me. The lack of infected really hurt the show, guess they tried to save money on the SFX.
