Though he's a douche like Clooney for mixing his stardom with politics, there's no doubt he's one of the greatest actors of the past 30 years...thinking to myself I've come up with my favorite parts he's had, I've come up with this top 10 IMO.
Carlito's Way
At Close Range
Bad Boys
State of Grace
The Thin Red Line
U-Turn
The Falcon and the Snowman
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Colors
The Game

Any thoughts?

His performance in Falcon and the Snowman and Bad Boys made him an accomplished star. He absolute kills it and owns Falcon and the Snowman. In State of Grace he plays off Oldman and in At Close Range he plays off Walken. Both have a great supporting cast. Same with U-Turn.

None really stick out for me. Besides there is no worse cunt than Tom Cruise IMO.

This is true concerning Cruise but at least he stays quiet in the shadows promoting his cult...Clooney and Penn feel obligated to voice their opinions nearly every time a mike is put in front of em. Do you recall Clooney's Oscar acceptance speech!...even South Park couldn't pass on that opportunity!

I painted a portrait of this guy for a school assignment back in the day. My prof told me I made good use of color by painting a sickly green for the background shade... kind of makes even more sense now.

I would too actually... it's been years. If I can find it somewhere I'll snap a photo... I've moved about 10 times since I painted it and who knows where it is though. No promises

Penn is always great. Well, almost always - that's why it's easier for me just to list the one time he could have been replaced by just about any other actor and it wouldn't have mattered: Shanghai Surprise. But at least he wore a nice tie in that.

Despite all his great dramatic performances (At Close Range, Bad Boys, Racing With the Moon, The Thin Red Line, Milk, Colors, Tree of Life) my absolute favorite is still Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

He also rates very high for me as a director. Indian Runner, The Pledge, The Crossing Guard and Into the Wild are all fantastic films.
